How towing prices actually work

Car loaded on a flatbed tow truck

Towing quotes feel mysterious until you know the three parts every honest company charges. Here is how our pricing — and any fair competitor's — breaks down.

The hook-up fee

This covers dispatch, the truck rolling to you, and loading. Ours is $75 for standard vehicles including the first 5 miles. If a quote won't state the hook-up fee plainly, hang up.

The per-mile rate

After included miles, expect $4–$6 per mile for light towing. Long-distance flatbed runs often discount the per-mile rate — ask, because many companies won't offer.

Three questions that expose bad quotes

  • "Is that the total, including mileage to my shop?" — vague answers mean add-ons later.
  • "Do you charge extra at night?" — we don't, and neither should anyone for standard tows.
  • "Can you text the quote?" — written quotes are binding in practice; verbal ones evaporate.

When insurance pays

Most full-coverage policies include towing reimbursement up to a limit. Our invoices carry photos, mileage, and service codes insurers require — just forward the receipt.
